About this place
Part of the pleasure at Bar Otofuke is simply listening to jazz over a drink. The bar has a record collection, and visitors have commented on the sound of its vacuum-tube amplifier and on the way brass and solo instruments stand out in big-band performances. For an evening centred on the music, it offers a different kind of setting from a lively bar built around conversation.
The menu includes single malts such as Glenfiddich, Laphroaig and Yoichi, alongside bourbons including Maker’s Mark and Wild Turkey. If you’re unsure what to order, you could start by choosing a whisky by name; there are also options such as a Kaku highball and hot whisky. Snacks include duck terrine served with crackers, as well as tinned fish and simmered fish dishes served warm. Rather than a full spread of food, the bar suits pairing a small snack with a favourite drink and settling in to listen to the records.
The bar is in Fukagawa 2-chome and opens Wednesday to Saturday from 18 to 23. It is closed Sunday to Tuesday.
